ISEE Australian Chapter Meeting 20th October 2017 Victoria Park Bowls Club, Perth, Western Australia

This Chapter meeting was the first ISEE Australian Chapter event held outside of Queensland. With the chapter only being incorporated for 2 years, it was great to finally host an event away from Queensland. This is just the next step to becoming a truly national industry body.

We had two great speakers with Dan Kavanagh from KCGM Superpit providing a presentation outlining some of the challenges at the Superpit and how they have overcome them, all whilst keeping an already impressive safety record intact. The long history of the Golden Mile is certainly very impressive.

Henry Zuidersma from the WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulations and Safety was second to present with an informative presentation on the Angellela Creek truck blast that occurred in Qld in September 2014. During his presentation, Henry gave some insight into why the ammonium nitrate may have exploded and on the need to be consistently vigilant when transporting AN. With in excess of a million tonnes of AN being trucked around WA each year, safety is paramount.

This event was tremendously supported by the WA drill and blast community with a vast cross section of positions covered. It was a great networking opportunity for all attendees catching up with old and new colleagues alike. We look forward to holding further events in WA.

A huge thank you has to go out to Drew Martin from Blast It Global, who has done a lot of leg work in the background to get this event off the ground. Without his contribution, it would have been extremely difficult to provide a great event.
