ISBL Conference & Revised Mission Statement

ISBL Conference & Revised Mission Statement

Last week, ISBL hosted its second annual conference as an institute, and CEO Stephen Morales unveiled the Institute’s new Mission, Vision and Values. [see below]

During his conference address, Stephen presented headline findings from ISBL’s recent research into the SBL workforce; the full report will be published in the New Year. In the meantime, you may find the slide covering the difference between contracted working hours and actual hours worked interesting. The slides Stephen used and a full transcript of his conference speech can be found here.

The conference was a great success with circa 300 delegates in attendance over the two days, sharing practice and celebrating the profession.

A new addition this year was a stand in the exhibition area where delegates could speak to trustees and advisory panel members to share any concerns they have about the profession, pressures they face in their own setting and ideas for how the Institute can better support them. If you weren’t at conference and want to feed in your ideas, please get in touch.

Don’t forget to put the date of next year’s conference in your diary now 12 - 13 November 2020.

What can we do to help you?

Everything ISBL does as the UK's professional body for school business practitioners is governed by its charitable objects expressed through the declared mission, vision and values. The board recently updated these and asked Stephen to share them at conference. My fellow board-members and I (Matthew, Trevor, Alison, Gary, Jo, Matt, Paul, Rachel & Yvonne) now want to share the new mission, vision and values with you. We are asking for your feedback on how school business professionals and the Institute can best work together to see SBLs having the greatest possible positive impact on our education system at every level.

  Mission, Vision and Values

Mission

  • ISBL is the dedicated professional body for school business practitioners.
  • We are committed to the continuous improvement and leadership development of those practitioners.
  • We act to ensure the suitability, sufficiency and sustainability of the school business profession, and we advocate for its enhanced status.

Vision

  • To see school business professionals having the greatest possible positive impact on our education system at every level.

Values

Integrity

  • We operate according to a code of practice demanding the highest ethical standards, and we set expectations of ourselves and our members commensurate with those expected of other highly respected professions

Inclusivity

  • We strive to provide services and development opportunities for all education professionals involved in school business activity

Impartiality

  • We have no political leaning or bias

Insight

  • We speak from a position of authority, which is based on a well-founded understanding of resource management in education

Do tell us how we can best work together to live out these aims and values.

Many thanks

Matthew

I really like this more explicit support of members wellbeing. It's a growing concern and many SBPs come to me asking where else they can turn to. I am sure members will really appreciate this.
