Isaiah 5:8-10

Isaiah 5:8-10

DAY #13

ISAIAH 5:8-10

?

8 ???????? Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!

9 ???????? In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.

10 ?????? Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah.

?

Verses 8-10 give the first of six woes. These did come to pass on Judah. But they still have great meaning for us today.

This first woe may seem to some not to be something that seems sinful. These are they that seek to claim greatness and wealth by buying up everything that can make them great income. In today’s world you may see this group of people as the globalists, or those who seek to control the market in an area. They buy the best real estate and the best farmland. These are the men and women of vast amounts of wealth who do not honor God.

Matthew Henry looks at verse 9 and notes that God whispers to Isaiah what the judgement is upon them. Their real estate investments, their houses, their apartments, shall become a bad investment most of them uninhabited. Their farmland shall suffer also and not produce enough crops to make a profit.

There is risk in every investment. Many will invest looking at charts and being promised good profit. Look at these woes as God’s intervention against the rule of greed.

?

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know You love us and wish us to prosper. I understand this woe was a strike against the love of money and possibly a lust for power. Lord, I know You go before me. I place my trust in You, not in myself. Lord, guide my use of my finances. Help me to seek Your wisdom. Use me Lord, both myself, and my finances to give You honor and glory.

In Jesus name, Amen.
