Isaiah 5:1-7

Isaiah 5:1-7

DAY #12

ISAIAH 5:1-7

?

1 ???????? Now will I sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well-beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:

2 ???????? And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

3 ???????? And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard.

4 ???????? What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

5 ???????? And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

6 ???????? And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

7 ???????? For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

??????????? These seven verses are called the Song of the Vineyard, and the Parable of the Vineyard. This song is sung by the prophet Isaiah, who is the voice of God to the people. Being God the Father’s voice he sings of His beloved’s work. This is a song about the work of God the Son (Matthew 3:17, 17:5; Mark 9:7, Luke 9:35). Verse 7 tells of who this vineyard is, it is Israel, and the very tribe of Judah.

God’s beloved had fenced in the vineyard, essentially separated it and protected it from outside harm. He had gathered out the stones that would make growth difficult. We see farmers today removing stones from where they plant. All this was done, before he planted the vine. He next builds a tower in this vineyard to watch over and protect it. Next he displays his hope for the fruit of the vine, by placing a winepress.

This song tells of the history of Israel, how it had been special. How it had been removed and placed into a special vineyard, and that the tribe of Judah had been treated extra special. It had been placed in the best soil. Where nutrients were made ready for it to grow. It had been watered with God’s grace as much as it needed. But it sadly produced evil, sinful fruit.

This is a song that invites Judah to examine what God has done for them, and asks what have they done in return? What is their testimony of their response to God’s provision and grace?

What will they do as God removes HIS protection and provision?

?

Dear Lord Jesus,

As I read this passage I think about what You have done in my life. I have a testimony because of your overwhelming love and patience with this stubborn fool. Lord, use me in ways I never imagined possible to share your great love. Use me that others may find this love that changed a wretch like me.

In Jesus name, Amen.
