IRS opens E-filing for Taxpayers

Tax season officially starts Monday, January 23rd, 2023, which is when the IRS opens E-file for individual taxpayers.

The IRS utilized this time to do their annual software updates to make sure their E-file system is ready for over 168 million individual tax returns.

E-file for Businesses already opened on Thursday, January 12th, 2023.

Some interesting points regarding tax season this year:

* With the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS has received additional funding and has added resources, such as additional IRS employees, to improve services for taxpayers this season.?

* The due date to file taxes is Monday, April 18th this year because April 15th is a Saturday, April 16th is a Sunday, and April 17th is Emancipation Day in the District of Colombia.

* For those expecting a refund due to the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit, the IRS is not allowed to release these refunds until mid-February. This is to provide additional time for the IRS to prevent fraud.

Taxpayers should be gathering their tax documents and information in preparation for filing a tax return, as this will prevent extensive delays or the need to amend their return!
