The IRS allows a special deduction for teachers.

Apparently, teachers have a special place with the IRS.
Teachers are allowed a special deduction for laying out supplies in their classrooms.
The deduction is $300 per taxpayer, and if both taxpayers are teachers, both can take this extra deduction of $300, totaling $600.
Usually employees, like teachers, are not allowed to deduct business or unreimbursed expenses but teachers are the exception and they deserve it!
The deduction is a powerful above-the-line deduction and can be utilized whether the taxpayers use the standard deduction or itemized deduction.
I will expound on who is considered an educator and which expenses qualify in another post.
