Irrigation made simple thanks to Turf-AG Nelspruit’s years of experience

Located in Riverside Industrial in Nelspruit, one finds a Turf-AG branch that has managed to earn a respected reputation in the industry as one of the top irrigation suppliers in the area.

This branch is managed by Le Roi Booysen, supported by his team of three irrigation experts.?

According to Booysen, the branch is proud to always have stock of the most popular products in store, which means they are able to ensure very short lead times for clients. Some of the most popular products they sell are pumps, wifi controllers and sensors, decoders and drip irrigation systems, to name but a few.?

The branch mainly focuses on providing irrigation equipment and advice to clients in the agricultural, domestic and commercial sectors. However, they are also well equipped to service clients in other sectors, like the industrial and sporting sectors.

Booysen explained that one of the best pieces of advice he can give to people is that they should make use of a proper irrigation design or layout in order to ensure effective irrigation.

“This enables future contractors to be able to know and identify the placement of pipes and electrical lines which reduces damages and simplifies troubleshooting on your system. Efficiently designed systems also have a direct influence on water and electricity bills as well as the amount of material needed,” he said.

He also recommended that clients take the time or read customer reviews online before making use of contractors. By doing this, clients can avoid making costly errors and getting the wrong person for the job onboard.

“Rather ask Turf-AG staff members for contact details of preferred contractors if and when uncertain,” he offered.?

When Booysen was asked to describe an interesting fact associated with irrigation, he explained that the most fascinating insight he can share with clients is that the idea that pumps “suck” water is actually a misconception.

“What it actually does is transfer fluid which enters through the suction nozzle into the eye of the impeller by using centrifugal force to generate the velocity of the liquid. The fluid is caught by the impeller vanes and rotated both tangentially and radially inside of the volute until it exits at the discharge side of the pump at a higher pressure than it entered. The volute transforms the velocity of the liquid into pressure and controls the pumped liquid as it's discharged from the pump. Not even self-priming pumps “suck” liquid into the pump. The design and ability to handle air uses atmospheric pressure to push liquid into the pump by lowering the pressure at the eye of the impeller,” he explained.

The Turf-AG team in Nelspruit has more than 12 years of experience in the irrigation industry between them. They also have access to industry leaders in various fields, like agricultural engineering, dam design and water legislation.
