Ireland's Technology Industry
Written by Niall Coughlan - Principal Recruitment Consultant at Cpl Galway
2023 has been a unique year in hiring for many reasons. In this article, I discuss some of the things I've seen personally.
The technology industry has been through a difficult period in the last 5 months. However, when considering the much-publicised changes in the technology sector it appears there have been very few engineers/technical staff that have been amongst those unfortunate to lose their jobs.
Hybrid working is becoming the most popular type of employment amongst client companies. Remote working options have been limited in 2023 as companies start to further cement their own working policies. 80% of the roles we are working on at Cpl Galway are now hybrid and this has been the consistent trend in 2023.
My personal message to any jobseeker is that you are still very much in demand due to a continued technical skills shortage. However, compared to last year, there are fewer available job opportunities. You may need to carefully consider the job opportunities that are presented to you. It may take longer for the next opportunity to reach you when compared to the last few years. Interview processes are more cautious and some patience can be required.
My message for companies that hire technical staff is that there hasn't been an increase in technical talent in the Irish job market. The market is still competitive, especially for roles including Software Developers, DevOps, Cybersecurity Engineers, Product Owners/Managers, & Project/Program Managers. Engage with the talent as soon as you can, as although some hiring processes have become more cautious, you will have a better chance of hiring candidates if you move quickly.
