IPRCC-CIIC delegation to visit UN Rome-based agencies that fight rural poverty

April 21st, 2017

A delegation from the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and the China Internet Information Center (CIIC) will be in Rome, Italy from April 26 to April 29 speaking at knowledge sharing events on poverty reduction co-organized with partners of the Global Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Growth (GPIG) Portal network.

China has made remarkable progress in poverty reduction by lifting 700 million people out-of-poverty in 30 years -World Bank estimates- and ahead of the MDG target. At the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee held in October 2015, the CPC stated that the Government of the People’s Republic of China aims at achieving the complete eradication of rural poverty by 2020, 10 years earlier than the international target. Indeed, the central objective of the 13th Five-Year Plan Period (2016-2020) of the Government is to lift out-of-poverty the remaining 55 million of rural poor in China.

The visit by the IPRCC and CIIC delegation to the UN Rome-based agencies specialized in the fight against rural poverty is one of the activities that support the strategic objective to establish strong global partnerships that enhance the successful achievement of the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG1 (no poverty), SDG2 (zero hunger), SDG10 (reduced inequalities) and SDG17 (partnerships for the goals).

The delegation will be delivering speeches and participating in meetings and learning events at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Bank, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Italian Agency for International Development and Cooperation.
