Q: If you could sum up the theme of IPM Day 2024, what would it be and why?
A: Building IPM Day involves extensive collaboration and strategic planning. We believe successful project management hinges on an essential equation: People + Purpose + Projects. Each element is indispensable for achieving optimal results. As AI continues to reshape our world, we are committed to curating content that emphasizes the enduring importance of human connection and strategic vision in project management.
What is an Ideal Organization? A well-designed machine or an emergent living organism?
By @Deepak Bansal
“Follow the rules; they have been designed for a reason!”, you must have heard this mantra many times in your life. “Where is the space for my emerging creativity?” you must have cringed at times. This is an everlasting debate between designs and emergence in any organization.
Organizations had to create standards and procedures to manage the complexity of an increasing variety of customer demand, and interconnectedness of global supply chains. The focus on formal strategies and structures defined the efficiency element of the organization and how well the machine is running! However, the same designed structures can become a bottleneck when a new change arrives. How can a well-designed machine adapt to new changes?!
Program Managers: The Next Gen Business Strategists.
By Al Zeitoun
A program is generally defined as a grouping of projects that can be managed consecutively or concurrently; or a combination of both. Most programs, because of their strategic nature and impact on the success of the organization, are much longer in duration and are susceptible to more challenges, risks, and a possible negative impact on the business.
Program Managers must have the qualities to handle this increased complexity resulting from the interactions of the many program components and the strategic nature of these initiatives. In the future, Program Managers are going to take on the role of Business Strategists. There are a set of qualities necessary to prepare and polish these leaders in order to develop them to play that maturing role and to create the impact that we aspire to achieve strategically.

Future organizations need to balance the formal & strategic design structures with lively and creative emergent structures to ensure that the organization remains a living & breathing entity.
