Cricket to many is not just a sport but an emotion. It is often referred to as a religion in some parts of the world and has witnessed the rise of various domestic leagues. The sport has the power to unite and grant a shared passion across many continents. Cricket comes with a legacy that continues to inspire generations, uniting individuals and communities in a collective celebration of talent and sportsmanship. It comes with a positive sense of competition. Being a timeless legacy it not only captivates the hearts of cricket enthusiasts worldwide but also proves to be a cultural cornerstone.

The Indian Premier competition (IPL) is the most successful and respected cricket competition among a number of leagues.

The league reinvented the nation’s favourite sport and transformed it. Known as the “Gentleman’s game” it is now the source of unity and entertainment all across the globe. It is a thrilling three-hour sports drama featuring Bollywood stars. It has created a new market space where cricketers can play and enjoy in a completely different way from all the ways existing from before. Audiences who had previously disregarded or rejected the game's traditional form suddenly showed a great deal of demand for it.

The IPL was established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as a Twenty20 cricket tournament? in 2008. The Vice-President Lalit Modi had envisioned a league that would revolutionise the sport and further create a platform where all players from all over the world can come together, unite and? showcase their skills. After studying the NBA and NFL, two other successful sports leagues, the league decided to adopt a franchise model.

Cricket has a large national fan base in India and is more than simply a sport to Indians. It is said to be the highest earning national sport. Debuting in 2008, it quickly shot up to being a billion-dollar valuation, making it India’s greatest and dominant sport with a valuation of $37.6 billion as of 2022. The much-liked sport generates 60% of the revenue worldwide through their sponsorship and star players.

The sport was watched by 10 million international viewers and 200 million Indians when it was first launched. The sport broke the record of Football's English Premier League which had 150 million viewers. In just two seasons, the IPL rose to become the sixth-biggest sports league in the world.

With eight teams representing different cities in India. A variety of investors, including businesses, entrepreneurs, and Bollywood stars, owned the teams.

The first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was played in Bangalore's Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18, 2008, between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders, who is owned by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan.

The tournament was won by Rajasthan Royals striking their first win of the season.?

While Kolkata Knight Riders lifted their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title with an eight-wicket thrashing of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals in Chennai in the latest IPL tournament 2024.
