iPhone and Me "on-line" workshop
This is wired615senior blog for September — Labor Day week In this blog we are going to talk all iPhone, and repeat this as part of my wired615senior podcast Volume II 09 — 09….
These are notes from a series of messages I exchanged with a “wannabe” iPhone use, and I’ll do it question & answer.
What is the difference between a used phone unlocked vs locked?
This is a complex question. It's against "international" covenants to "sell" locked cellular phones.
Can every Apple 6 be used on Verizon?
Apple now provides two versions of each iPhone to accommodate "carriers" requirements. ATT & Verizon share one / Telecom & Sprint the other. The carrier will supply you with the correct model. To a user there's no difference except if you switch carriers!
Is Apple Macbook Air 11.6 better than Apple 6 plus?
All new iPhones will have iOS 9 after 09/08. The operating systems are not "shared" between devices except for iPhone & iPad. The number suggests that the computer comes preloaded with ElCaptan software which is a plus.
Here are some Apple phones I am considering . Some are Refurbished. Models are Apple I phone 54GLTE, Apple I phone 5546LTE, Apple I phone 4 LS, Apple I phone 4
It all depends on what you plan to do with your phone, Most of the buzz on "6" is "screen size", but the real secret is capacity (16g/34g/64g). So you might want to consider the 5C/8g or 5S/16g. For most purposes including telephone, and limited texting a 5C might work for you, and you can probably get a pretty good price, especially after iOs9 comes out.
I have bought re-furbished items, but not an iPhone, and I recommend it, however, I think you'll have deal with Apple on-line, as far as I am aware they don't offer re-furbished in the store, they will however deliver it through the store. Store pickup is great and they will assist you in every way.... they won't set up you phone -- they "watch" you do it! They may have "limited" selection, based on your preferred carrier.
FYI/ Do not consider buying any 4 or 4S even as a "gift", you start out three "updates" behind!
(Just look at what's going on with "Windows 10") That's a cautionary tail if I have ever heard one.
Of course, if you still "have" a cell phone -- that number belongs to you and it can be transferred to the new phone, no harm no foul, you are not required to "buy" a new number. Bring the phone with you where-ever you shop, they need access to the "sim card" to transfer the number --
FYI/ The sim card is what makes the telephone active.
If you buy a smartphone I recommend The Apple Store and they will help you for free. Or if you go to BestBuy (they probably have the best price). Do not purchase from the carrier.
The best pre-buy advice is to be very careful in choosing an Apple ID and password.
