iPAVE ready to work in SA

NTRO's world-first technology is being used to assess the condition of South Australia’s roads and ensure maintenance is carried out more efficiently across the state’s road network.?

NTRO’s Intelligent Pavement Assessment Vehicle (iPAVE) has started collecting vital road data across all state-maintained roads and highways, with the information to be used to help determine future road maintenance and prioritise repairs and upgrades.?

Our iPAVEs are now being used to measure, monitor and manage the road networks in Queensland, Victoria, WA and SA. We have even come up with the clever idea of using the technology to help condition-check airport runways.

NTRO turns one year old

NTRO, underpinned by the Australian Road Research Board's 60+ years of history, and incorporating the Australasian Centre for Rail Innovation (ACRI), turned one year old on December 1, 2023.

As road agencies have become transport agencies in Australia and New Zealand, our integrated transport research, innovation and experience has been increasingly sought to drive innovative outcomes across rail, ports and airport projects as well as roads.

ARRB's transition into the National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) in late 2022 has allowed us to formalise our offerings across all modes of transport.

Solutions for local government

Local government controls more than 75% of Australia's road network. In some states, it's higher than that.

Councils need affordable, achievable solutions for their road networks.

The recent, much-needed boost to the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery funding program driven by the advocacy of the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) will offer local government the opportunity to reduce road maintenance gaps, and deliver road safety and productivity benefits to all communities.?

NTRO Local - NTRO's bespoke offering for local government - can assist Councils at any stage of their journey. NTRO Local offers cost-effective, sustainable, data-driven road solutions directly to local government - from data-driven grant applications to asset assurance and independent technical and strategic advice on road projects.

The Future of Freight campaign is launched by Federal Minister for Transport, Hon Catherine King MP, in Melbourne.

The Future of Freight - think more rail

Australia needs a resilient, reliable and efficient national rail freight network to support the nation’s growing freight task, and NTRO has been involved in important research into rail freight productivity.

The Future of Freight Campaign has been built on research sponsored by the Australasian Centre for Rail Innovation (ACRI) which is now part of NTRO, the Australasian Railway Association (ARA), the Freight on Rail Group (FORG) and the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (DITRDCA).

The Future of Freight Campaign was launched in November 2023, and NTRO attended the Pacific National Melbourne Freight Terminal where The Hon Catherine King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, spoke on the importance of the report and progress required with rail’s role in freight.

This truck was doing Aerodrome assessments prior to Covid in the NT where we could safely access sealed aerodromes whilst checking our sealed network. Whilst unproven at the time, gave us valuable insight to pavement strength
