IP4G Storage Control Enhancements

Managing your IP4G storage just got more granular with the release of pcloud 1.100.0. This update introduces a significant enhancement to volume creation, granting you direct control over storage pool selection for your AIX, IBM i, and Linux instances.

Previous Volume Control:

Historically, specifying storage for your volumes involved selecting a storage type (SSD or HDD) and an affinity policy (affinity or anti-affinity to existing volumes). While functional, this approach lacked the precision to pinpoint the exact storage pool for your volumes.

New Feature: Direct Pool Selection

pcloud 1.100.0 addresses this limitation by introducing the -p option to the pcloud compute volumes create command. This allows you to explicitly specify the desired storage pool for your new volumes.

How it Works:

  1. List Available Pools: Use the command pcloud compute volumes spools lists to retrieve a list of available storage pools in your IP4G region. This output includes crucial information such as:

  • Pool Name
  • Storage Type (SSD or HDD)
  • Maximum Allocation Size
  • Total Capacity

  1. Specify Pool During Volume Creation: When creating a new volume, utilize the -p flag followed by the desired pool name. For example: Bash pcloud compute volumes create testvol -s 100 -t SSD -p SSD-General-Flash-100 This command creates a 100GB SSD volume named "testvol" in the "SSD-General-Flash-100" pool.
