IPO welcomes new IP Minister
The IPO welcomes the announcement that Feryal Clark has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology, with responsibility for IP.
During the Minister's first full week in post, Adam Williams (IPO CEO) and Harry Rich (Chair of the IPO Steering Board) were delighted to meet with the Minister to discuss how we will work together to ensure the UK's IP system remains one of the most highly regarded in the world and continues to support creativity and innovation.?
Our parent department, the newly enhanced Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), is focused on transforming services and delivering economic growth through science and technology. Through our refreshed strategy and ambitious digital transformation programme, we’re ready to play our part in delivering this mission. We look forward to working closely with the new minister and teams across government to enhance the UK’s world-leading IP system, driving and securing innovation and creativity.
IPO celebrates first filing in new digital service
The IPO celebrates a landmark moment, with the first patent application successfully filed on the new fully digital ‘One IPO’ patents service.
We also debuted our new AI-powered patent allocation tool, which slashes the time taken to get the patent application to the right team from 14 days to a matter of seconds. This enables a more streamlined and efficient service.
The news of the first patent being filed comes as the?IPO?ramps up its pilot of the new service, where some customers are given early access to test and give their feedback ahead of the expected launch to all patents customers in early 2025.
Peter Kyle , Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, said:?
"The IPO’s new service is an embodiment of our vision to transform how we deliver slicker and quicker digital services to the British public.
The One?IPO?system will make it easier for users to bring their new innovations to market. Through the application of cutting-edge AI, it will also change what is currently a weeks-long administrative process into one taking a matter of seconds.
This represents a true revolution in efficiency, supporting innovators to deliver the solutions which will kickstart our economic growth and usher in a new era of productivity."
