The Iowa Arts Council falls within the newly formed Arts and Community division at the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Produce Iowa is a part of Marketing and Communications.
Arts and Economic Prosperity 6
A new statewide study demonstrates the social and economic impact of the non-profit arts and culture industry across Iowa.
?The yearlong study, known as Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6), showed that non-profit arts and culture organizations employed more than 12,400 Iowans and accounted for more than $750 million in economic activity in Iowa from May 2022 to June 2023.
?Ten Iowa communities and regions participated in the study with support from the Iowa Arts Council. The national study is conducted about once every five years by Americans for the Arts. A total of?373 participating communities representing all 50 states and Puerto Rico participated in AEP6.

Creative Places Spotlight - Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa welcomed several musicians from Ghana for a community residency in late October as part of Worldfest, a performing arts residency program through Arts Midwest that tours world music ensembles to rural communities in the Midwest.
Fine Arts and Cultural Events (FACE) of Mahaska County also received a Rural Enrichment grant through Empower Rural Iowa to expand the Oskaloosa Art Center and create a more collaborative and accessible space.

Congratulations to Colleen Krantz for being invited to screen and pitch her Greenlight Grant project, “Complete Bull,” at the recent Nashville Film Festival, held in conjunction with the Catalyst Story Institute. The festival is an Academy Award-qualifying festival for shorts, and Catalyst is a leader at connecting episodic storytellers to the industry.
?“Parsons- The School that Changed the Rules” premiered last month at the Stephen Sondheim Theater in Fairfield to approximately 1,000 people over its opening weekend. The fifth documentary as part of the Fairfield History Series uncovers the sudden rise and fall of Parsons College through past students, faculty, and educational leaders. ?Congrats to the Des Moines Arts Festival for winning 22 awards from the International Festivals and Events Association during IFEA's 66th Annual Convention, Expo & Retreat.
The Des Moines Underground Film Festival had a successful event at the Varsity Cinema this week. The annual festival consisted of screenings of independent short films and music videos made by local filmmakers and artists and was hosted by Serena Fath.
Iowa Artist Fellow Spotlight
2023 Iowa Artist Fellow Gabi Torres and her partner Chris Shannon, a street artist and muralist, have teamed up on a new series of murals and street art festivals. Through the ‘Paint It Back’ project, the artist team are working to add a series of vibrant murals to the Lyons District in downtown Clinton.
