Sigfox technology is low cost technology in the field of IOT business and going to tap into the burgeoning so-called Internet of Things (IoT) sector where it faces competition from three other emerging networks in India: 5G by Jio, LoRa with TATA and it is backed by French telecom operator Orange and equipment maker Cisco Systems, and NB-IoT, which is backed by Japan's Softbank.
These companies' wireless networks enable devices to transfer small volumes of data over a wide area while maintaining battery life over many years, whereas 5G services can carry much bigger volumes but cost a lot more. Means costing will be very high compare to other IOT like Sigfox technology is lowest.
There's a lot of noise around 5G because, Jio can come with this technology due 5G services has capacity to handle bigger volume for other services like DTH etc. Jio has bigger plan to touch all the sectors of digital platform including IOT.
But these technologies that are being put in place are much more costly compare to Sigfox technology. Telcos are using these technologies for their generating new revenue.
The first standards for 5G, the next generation of broadband mobile internet, were recently approved with first commercial offers expected in 2019 or 2020.
The roll-out for 5G will cost billions of dollars for Pan India operations compare with a few million for Sigfox's IoT networks.
Objects connected through Sigfox's networks range from house alarms to public waste containers, electric meters and water meters and many more services.
