IoT Geeks: IIoT with Bevywise MQTT Platform Workshop

Welcome to 2019, by the time I say this already a month gone. Hope we all will have a handful of accomplishments when we finish this year. As we begin 2019, this year I thought about our monthly workshops little different than the last year's one. Instead we continuously host the workshops, we thought of asking technology startups / people come and host such a workshops in emerging technologies. So the participants get wider experience from the people on the ground. I & Ranjith Kumar who is the CEO of Bevywise decided to host a first IIoT Workshop in Jan but it bit dragged to Feb month. I did not quite decide a venue for this workshop, getting so closer to the date I did request Altimetrik. Akshat helped us to open the door for this year's first workshop. If you look at the above the big screen who appear there is "Raj Vattikuti" who is a American-Indian entrepreneur, business executive and philanthropist. He is the Founder and Chairman of Altimetrik Corp. I like his thoughts for Software Engineering, he don't call its a Software Development. BTW If you are a technology startup or enthusiastic, wanna to host a workshops part of IoT Geeks community, you are welcome to be part of it.

About - IoT Geeks

"IoT Geeks" is a non-profit technology community in india. We at IoT Geeks constantly educating people about emerging technologies. We bring collaborations among students, professionals, and entrepreneurs through our monthly workshops & meetups. We provide a platform for people network & connected with industry trends and get prepared for the future or up-skill for their career.

Workshop Highlights

11:00 am: We all get into Altimetrik Office, there were about 33 people and then we kicked off the workshop. Ranjith started his keynote on "Industry 4.0 & Getting Started with IoT. He detailed about how industrialization happened over the period of time and what Industrial 4.0 holds for everyone. He also covered topics about MQTT Broker, Subscriber concepts. How edge devices works and various communication technique unfolding such as http, BLE, LoraWan, MQTT and more

12:00 pm: The time was going bit fast and we asked the participants to setup a required software including Bevywise platform. Meanwhile we distributed the NodeMCU Wifi module & DHT11 temp sensor to participants, IoT Geeks team brought 20 each hardware for participants. We have to troubleshoot some of the issues we faced during our workshop. we had some port issues from the laptop sponsored by Altimetrik and with personal laptop few people had the same issue. It dragged the workshop little bit further. So we were loosing time on what we need to cover for the day

01:00 pm: We did break for lunch, Altimetrik sponsored lunch for 50 people again and arrangement from Akshat and team. Helps people not to walk away from the office for lunch. They have a nice cafeteria as well. I eat my sponsored lunch as well after everyone get assembled back. :)

2:00 pm: Everyone get settled after lunch and the setup of tools continued, Ranjith pulled another participants Ashok who was the founder of Solar based predictive maintenance service startup to help with edge setup (Arduino & NodeMCU). Ashok did a very good job about explaining the hardware and its software setup. Few people struggled to set it up with library issues and few people were able to successfully complete the exercises. They did run same sample programs library to ensure that the setup was correct.

3:00 pm: People started hacking with edge data on to server (The local setup vs cloud). We hooked DHT11 temperature with NodeMCU. The sample program what we run is to pull the temperature & humidity from the sensor and store that data into the cloud and finally show some charts. But most of the people got stuck setting up the hardware & software together.

4:00 pm: I don't like getting into front the participants these days. However I jumped in little bit to talk about Altimetrik DCult's community. DCult is the internal community in Altimetrik and the community invites other emerging technologies communities around to host a workshops, training, hackathon & more. For that they exclusively built a workplace called "Playground". Also I talked about IoT Geeks and what we did over last 5 years and whats coming. This month Feb 7, IoT Geeks finished its 5th year.

4:30 pm: We covered only half of the agenda due to some glitches we encountered, however we are planning to host the Part-2 of this session with more examples and hands-on for participants. We will plan one down the road. We are all assembled for a team photo and the wrapped up.

Thanks
