IoT Enablement - Becoming the 12th Best Supply Chain in the World
Schneider Electric recently received some fantastic recognition by Gartner who ranked Schneider Electric as the 12th best supply chain in the world. This recognition is a clear indication that our global supply chain is evolving to become even more tailored, sustainable, and connected with our Tailored Supply Chain 4.0 strategy.
Gartner’s evaluation is based on peer opinion as well as detailed analysis. So, the fact that Schneider Electric climbed from #17 to #12 in top 25 supply chains in the world is pretty significant. What isn’t so obvious is how Schneider Electric pulled this off.
Like many of our customers going through a digital journey, IoT enablement is starting to have a major impact on the way we operate. For Schneider Electric, EcoStruxure is foundational to that IoT enablement. EcoStruxure provides us with the framework and architecture for driving our own digital transformation within our plants.
Behind the scenes, our global supply chain has been steadily increasing the number of connected assets we have in our manufacturing processes. By combining those connected assets with edge control we now have much greater visibility into our real-time operations within a plant or across all of our operations. This allows our plant managers to make decisions quicker, reducing potential downtime and optimizing our production.
If you were to visit one of our facilities here in North America like Lexington Kentucky or Monterrey Mexico, what you would see is an incredibly connected environment with a centralized operating center that looks a lot like the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. However, these facilities are not done with their IoT implementations. A careful observer would note that this environment is constantly changing to take advantage of additional connected assets as well as evolving data analytics. Like the work being conducted at these facilities, these environments are truly dynamic.
EcoStruxure in our plants is allowing us to greatly reduce our overall energy spend, reduce our waste, identify manufacturing defects, and avoid costly shutdowns due to failing equipment. Ultimately, these IoT enabled advancements are helping us receive global recognition by organizations like Gartner. That is a good thing for Schneider Electric and a great thing for our customers.
