Introduction:
As we know, modern vehicles are equipped with mechanism to detect collisions and initiate aid measures such as inflating airbags fitted inside to save life of occupants. Most of the vehicles are not having systems which can measure severity of the collisions due to accident. Due to absence of such systems, it is not possible to alert hospital and other aid agencies to reach the location of particular accident and provide emergency help.
Problem Statement:
To develop IoT (Internet of Things) system which can detect severity of the collision impact during an automobile accident and record the location of the accident with latitude, longitude and google map information. The data collected from sensors are uploaded to web page or remote cloud web server.
System architecture:
The system consists of microcontroller unit, sensors (collision detect sensor, force sensitive resistor), GPS module, cellular GSM module and so on. All these components are integrated together and are installed on the car or vehicle whose clash impact has to be measured or simulated. The same has been shown in the block diagram. The two cases can be simulated here.
Case-1: Normal accident condition in which minor scratches have occurred on the vehicle or car. This scenario does not require medical attention or any police attention.
Case-2: Heavy impact collision due to which severe damage have occurred after accident. In this scenario, IoT system determines impact of collisions which will help in determining whether immediate medical help is required or not.
During severe accident, the accelerometer data along with latitude, longitude and google map information can be uploaded to the cloud server. The data can be displayed either directly in the panel of server or can be displayed on web page as desired for healthcare professionals to monitor and provide any assistance needed. The impact can also be locally simulated and output data can be displayed on local server as shown in the results section below. GPS module is interfaced with MCU (Microcontroller Unit) to provide latitude, longitude and map information.

Results:
The data include time and date of collision, latitude, longitude, severity of impact (low, medium or high) and google map location.
