IoT in Agriculture and Irrigation.

Internet of Things (IoT) - is simply the internet controlling things. This enables the seamless communication between sensors, controllers, and other smart devices, forming a network that optimizes agricultural management and water usage.

We have witnessed unprecedented levels of adoption of technology in agriculture and IoT was once an emerging "Agri-Technology" and now it has taken a mainstream position by a wider adoption.

IoT is revolutionizing the agricultural industry, enabling farmers to reduce waste and enhance productivity. The integration of IoT in smart irrigation leads to enhanced data-driven decision-making and increased automation.

IoT enables farmers to gather real-time data on weather conditions, soil moisture, temperature, and other conditions to make informed decisions about planting, irrigation, and harvesting. Bringing it into the field can result in higher crop yields and reduced resource waste. As the population continues to increase, so does the demand for food.

By leveraging IoT technology, farmers can precisely monitor and adjust the quantity of fertilizer used and the amount of water used for irrigating a field. The technology can also be adopted in pest and disease detection, control and prevention for both crops and animals.

These and so much more that IoT can offer to boost the agricultural industry.

Food for thought. Agriculture, forestry, and land use contribute around 25% to global greenhouse gas emissions. The agriculture industry, rooted in age-old practices, faces an urgent need for sustainable change, addressing issues like climate change, soil degradation and erosion. Fortunately, innovations in AgriTech, Data Science, and AI are beginning to play a pivotal role in transforming the industry. IoT devices, satellites, drones, and Robots are collecting data on various parameters, enabling a combination of traditional simulated models and AI algorithms to enhance crop quantity and quality, reduce wastage, and minimize human effort. Examples include soil management to avoid water pollution, Computer Vision for automated harvesting, AI systems for pest and weed control, and precision crop management for optimizing revenue. Emerging technologies like no-till farming, tree intercropping, and permaculture, combined with IoT-AI, are poised to revolutionize the sector. Notably, AI's impact extends beyond agriculture, encompassing various sectors like electricity systems, transportation, and carbon dioxide removal, which will help in combating climate change.
