IoD Scotland - a very interesting night

The institute of Directors in Scotland has obviously put some thought behind this year’s Director of the year awards.

It’s very hard to simulate a live event with an online event but I have to say this looks pretty close.

Prior to the event Barry Bryson, owner of Cater in Edinburgh, will demonstrate how to prepare your own meal for the night. Rachel MacDonald from Isle of Harris will be helping guests prepare a special cocktail for the evening.

I am really excited to be going because:

·      My dinner suit will be dusted down for the occasion – not happened in a while;

·      The event has a great location – my home, your home, everyone’s home;

·      Its free to attend for members and non-members of the IoD;

·      I get to make a voluntary  donation to Epilepsy Scotland (my youngest daughter suffered a lot with epilepsy) through their just giving page;

·      The shortlist includes me which will keep me in order for a while;

·      The format is great for networking through the private chat function; and

·      Grant Stott will be hosting the evening.

As someone who has done their fair share of networking I am looking forward to travelling a few yards to the event and a few yards to my own bed afterwards.

I “went” to the IOD North West awards a couple of weeks ago, never been so comfortable at an awards ceremony. There was something glorious about wearing slippers and sipping on tea while the results were announced.

I'd probably still hear a 'taxi for Houston' announcement, such is my poor dinner table jokes repertoire!
