Wherever you live in this world, there is someone near you who is going hungry. “None of my business”, you might say. But is this really where it stops?
There is something you can do. Next time you do your grocery shopping buy something extra. It doesn’t have to be much. Only whatever you can afford. Do it now! Write it on your shopping list.
You might have excuses, or arguments not to do it. Maybe they are even valid. But the hungry children don’t understand it. They only understand the rumbling in their stomach. And the adults? Do you know what it feels like to go to a food bank? It is not a lifestyle choice. It can mean stress,…embarrassment, … despair. Yeah, not exactly a confidence-booster.
So, next time you look at this list throw something extra in your trolley, and make someone happy.
…and please share this.

7 年Sorry, Karen! Here in New Zealand we have food banks, so I can pay for something, and then leave it at the supermarket to bring it to a food bank. Maybe you could suggest something like this to your supermarket.

7 年Hate to say this, but this suggestion assumes s lot. It only gets the reader half way there: Buy an extra item and then ...? If I live in a suburban enclave or rural area, what do I do with it?

7 年Some years ago, I went to a food bank for a while just to get a feel for the environment and its people - The feel: Take what you can get and be happy and thankful about it. Now, if I had been really needy, I may have experienced some other feelings?? But, it is still feeling thankful.
