An invitation to strengthen UC Berkeley's Geosystems program ties with Berkeley Geoengineering Alumni
Dear Alumni of the Geosystems Program at UC Berkeley,
Despite the COVID19 challenges, the Geosystems group at UC Berkeley continues to grow and is undertaking several new initiatives that we are very excited about. One of them is Re-establishing and Strengthening our Ties with our Alumni, i.e., you!
As you know, the greatest strength of our program has always been our students. Our talented students join the program, learn a lot, and when they graduate, take on many leadership positions in industry, academia and government. However, up to now, we have not had a formal and systematic manner to communicate with our alumni. Doing so will allow us to provide you with news of our program, and also will allow us to hear about the exciting initiatives you are undertaking.
To that end, we wanted to invite you to register online at the Berkeley Geoengineering Alumni Association group that we established on GeoWorld. To facilitate our interactions, we use the GeoWorld platform, the online networking platform for geotechnical engineers that was established under the Auspices of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and has nearly 20,000 members.
Registering to this group will allow us to keep track of the large number of geo-alumni that we estimate to be into the thousands. This platform will specifically allow us to:
1. Maintain a searchable database of our alumni, along with important information about the year of your graduation, current job employment, and location;
2. Reach out to you more systematically by distributing a newsletter as well as other news of our program;
3. Make freely available to you resources generated by our group in a protected space.
The platform will also allow you to connect with other alumni in the group that you may want to re-establish ties with.
So go ahead and join the Berkeley Geoengineering Alumni Association group here, click on “Join Group” and follow the prompts.
Also, we would greatly appreciate it if you can forward this message to any alumni of our program. You can also put their name in the comments box of this message and they should be notified about it.
On behalf of the Faculty of the Geosystems Group at UC Berkeley, we look forward to interacting with you!
