A recent post from Steven Bartlett on Invisible PR took me back to when I was 14 years old (maybe a year younger), standing at a bus stop on the way home from school in the school uniform, of which the school was rightly proud. I didn't understand invisible PR that day, but I learned quickly and have spread the word ever since.
I attended a grammar school in the 1970s that achieved great results, and many parents wanted their children to attend, but that is not the point of this story.
The point of the story is that I was mucking about at the bus stop in full school uniform, and a prefect gave me lines for bringing the school into disrepute!
WHAT my brain screamed, and my mouth opened 'I am not at school' followed by something like 'you can't tell me what to do on the street'
You can see, even then, I didn't just accept 'stuff' without questioning the rationale Well, I was promptly told 'I can', and you are getting detention for bringing the school into disrepute and lines for answering back ........................ that worked well for me back then!
I did the detention, I did the lines, I paid the price and learned. As I grew through life and business, I truly appreciated what personal brand and the Invisible PR that Steven talks about really mean and taught it to many, many, many individuals over decades. I actually wish I had learnt the true meaning earlier, and there is a time for everything in life.
In the world of social media, it is even more important now than it has ever been to understand what your invisible PR is and how it is affecting you and your relationships and results and reputation
