Employers are starting to acknowledge the human and economic burden imposed on employees serving as Caregivers for family members or friends with chronic illness, even while trying to remain productive in their own work.? This burden is growing ever-larger with an aging population experiencing more chronic disease – such as Cancers that have become survivable long-term chronic conditions, Alzheimer’s, ?and serious Mental Health Conditions like major depression.

Dr. Lerner has dedicated her career to translating research results into evidence-based workplace policies and practices to enable all adults to remain productive throughout their lives.? As developer of the Work Limitations Questionnaire (WLQ) and leading global researcher on major health issues like depression that hugely impact functionality and productivity, she has produced much of the evidence to support the entire Discipline of Health and Productivity Management.

Dr. Lerner’s current work as Co-Leader of the Employer Initiative at the Rosalyn Carter Institute for Caregivers Working While Caring Program has turned her globally-recognized research and measurement skills to assessing the Workplace Cost of this Caregiver Burden for Employers.? In this regard, she also serves on the National Alliance for Caregiving/AARP Steering Committee that is planning the 2025 Caregiving in the United States Survey.? 1 个月"Invisible overtime" is the essence of what working caregivers are experiencing - impacting their own health, wellbeing and work performance while imposing a significant cost burden on themselves and for their employers. Caregiving gradually- and now suddenly - has become a central socioeconomic issue of our age.
