The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man

Do you see me?

Do you see me? Come to work every day, sit at my desk, head down, and push through. Am I here, do you care?

I arrived before you did and left an hour after you left. Did you notice?

Can you hear me? I told you the website was down, the products are backordered, and sales are down. Did you listen?

Did you watch me? I heard a new hire stumbling through a call. I walked over to comfort them and help with the resolution. I asked if we could take a quick break, so we walked outside so they could decompress and I could reassure them that everything is going to be fine.

Do you understand me? I don’t want to be the teacher's pet. I want the business to succeed. I want to relieve some of the burden from your daily routine. I am a team player and want nothing more than to be appreciated.

Speak to me, are you there?

Yes, I Am Here.

Yes, I am here and every day as I enter the office I am watching, our conversations in the elevator, I am interviewing you again and again. I am aware of your commitment and your talent. You, my friend, are a rare find and appreciated more than you realize.

My mind has been laser-focused on the perfect placement for you within the organization. Everything you are doing are things that allow me to focus on more pressing issues. You take care of the fire as I rebuild the structure.

I have been assessing the organization to find the perfect spot for your talent. I’ve searched every department with no real outcome. Every seat is filled and all budgets have been prepared. I could not have accomplished what I have here without you.

You have exceeded every expectation. We have gone through good times and bad times; hopefully, we have learned a great deal from each other.

So as we sit here in my office and I contemplate your future, I must reflect on my own. I would like you to post a job ad on LinkedIn. Look for someone to fill your position.

I found a seat for you, and it is the one I am sitting in. Here are the keys to my office, which is now your office. Let me know how much time you need from me for you to ramp up before I exit.

The job you seek is mine, and I am excited to relinquish it to you. Great job, my friend, and the best of luck. You deserve this.
