Investing in Your Mindset is a Business Strategy

A bit of a statement I know but when you start thinking it through it makes sense. How often when we are caught up in the juggling of running a business or in leadership do we take a moment to step back and invest in ourselves? Those who are successful cottoned onto this a long time ago and now are writing books about it. The point I'm going to make is that it is a fast track to making authentic business decisions, being productive and creating a proactive, transparent and positive culture not only within yourself but also within your business.
What do I mean by investing in your mindset? It's about putting aside dedicated time, effort and resources to consciously develop a growth-oriented and positive outlook. Doing this either yourself or with the support of life coaching.
Some people naturally do this as a coping mechanism after trauma, whatever that might involve. When I think back in my life I have naturally done this by being grateful for what I did have and focusing my energies into what could be possible in the future. Every decision I made I consciously thought 'Is this in keeping with my values?' If not, time to change. Not a sob woe is me story about my youth but sometimes out of trauma it focuses thought processes on what is important in life and what is important to you and drives you towards positive change. Trauma does not have to control or define your whole life, you define you. Change is always possible.
It takes strength, courage and focus to go for what you want. When you have a growth and positive mindset you have the strength to be in tune with what your instinct is telling you, take calculated risks and be authentic to what your vision is. Just imagine, where this could take you. Where could this take you in your business?
Many find it difficult especially as entrepreneurs or leaders being the one who ultimately makes all of the decisions, it can be a lonely process. It can be riddled with imposter syndrome, comparison and perfectionism, knocking self-esteem or confidence. When you have a growth-oriented or positive mindset (or both) your self-belief soars and so does your confidence. By being authentic to you, you aren't afraid of truly being yourself and creating your own culture or tribe in keeping with that. When you can be you, you shine and so do the people around you. You become approachable (people will either take you or leave you and that's ok) and create a transparent culture which is a nest bed for creativity, ideas, and dynamism.
Challenges often get thrown in one's path. A strong mindset helps you have greater resilience allowing you to persevere through setbacks or failures and grow from them. It helps foster a solution-orientated approach to problem-solving and effective decision-making. It enables you to stay focused on long-term goals and be able to not feel overwhelmed, breaking down efforts into manageable short-term goals if necessary. It will significantly impact your ability to lead, innovate and drive the business.
Having a growth mindset not only means you are more likely to face challenges head-on and persist in the face of failures (or see them as growth opportunities) but you are also open to learning new skills. This outlook allows a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and a willingness to take calculated risks. It can empower not only you but also your employees to adapt to change, seek feedback, and view setbacks as stepping stones toward future success. When you think about it this way, when there is more creativity, resilience, and a greater capacity for long-term growth and development, why wouldn't you?
Being a strong leader with a positive outlook sets the tone for your business and your relationships both outwith and within. You become attractive to be around with an optimistic and constructive outlook. You will have a can-do attitude, finding solutions and overcoming obstacles with a more open approach to problem-solving. This inspires confidence, motivation, and a sense of purpose within your business and a healthy work culture, where employees feel supported, empowered, and motivated to contribute to your company's success. Overall, a positive mindset leads to improved morale, productivity, and a greater ability to adapt to change and seize opportunities. It is contagious and spurs your teams to adopt the same which gives perseverance in hard times and good communication.
Adapting one's mindset isn't a 'click your fingers' moment and then you have it. It takes time. It is an ongoing process of personal development. But it will change you and those around you and the results are life-changing.
So, the question to ask is why wouldn't you invest in yourself like you would in a service that helps support your business?
