Investing in Your Childs Digital Future - ENS Digital Real Estate

Yesterday, I purchased .ens domains for each of my children. They are already experimenting with virtual reality and conversational computing. In fact unknowingly AI has been a part of their digital experience since they were very little. Now, with the rise of Web3 technologies, and recent announcement that websites will support cryptocurrency wallets, securing an ENS domain with my children's name will be the least expensive investment in their future I can make online.

ENS stands for Ethereum Name Service, a blockchain-based service that allows users to have readable names for their cryptocurrency wallet addresses, rather than long complicated alphanumeric strings. Similar to how domain names on the internet function, we can use ENS domains to receive cryptocurrency, interact with decentralized applications, and more.

Just as you might secure a domain name for a website, securing an ENS domain for your child ensures they own their digital identity. As the world becomes more interconnected, a unique digital identity will be crucial in personal, professional, and social spheres. Unlike the current model of private corporate networks like Facebook and Twitter, ENS domains live on public protocol networks like email and traditional websites. And much like a website, you can build whatever you like on it and perhaps most importantly instead of subjugation to a corporate network who can control and manipulate your ability to transact and network on a public domain the user owns his or her own digital space outright.

As the gig economy evolves, many jobs will likely involve blockchain technology and digital currencies. An ENS domain could serve as a foundational tool for your child, whether they're freelancing, starting a digital business, or working within the crypto economy. Even if your child wants to travel the world, sell braided bracelets or open a lemonade stand, they will have autonomy and control of their money. They will be able to promote themselves or their products, free of censorship and accept payment peer to peer. Transactions on the blockchain are secured by cryptography, reducing the risk of identity theft compared to traditional systems.

The Future is Now

Investing in an ENS domain for your child is more than just securing a digital identity—it's an investment in their autonomy and versatility in a digital-first economy. As we embrace the potential of Web3, micropayments, and the global gig economy, having a piece of this new digital landscape might give your child an invaluable head start.

As parents, we're always looking for ways to give our children the best possible future. I could be wrong but it's a very small investment with huge potential.

If you want to create their Web3 username you can visit the ENS app and start by searching for an available domain name. Once you own the domain, you can link it to your crypto wallets, websites, and create multiple subdomains.

Good luck!

Some fun ENS kismet: My sister decided to spell my nephew's name unconventionally. It's just 1 letter, but made it unique enough that the ENS was available. Will be holding it for him until he's 18
