Investing in Web 3

Hi #TechTuesday family! After a long hiatus of world wind travels and some much needed time off to recharge, #TechTuesday is officially back on. Without further ado, let's get to it with this week's guest.

Meet Megan Nilsson, speaker, a high-end crypto and NFT portfolio consultant for large companies, investors and celebrities, and an advocate for women in Web 3. It is safe to say that Megan is here to change up the game of the future.

Web 3 is such a new space, and as it stands, it is very exclusionary. People who know a lot about it and believe in its potential are at the forefront of these conversations. But much of the population, especially women, feel intimidated by how much there is to learn.

Megan is passionate about bridging this gap and showing everyone the potential of crypto and Web 3 to improve their financial situation. Megan and I sat down for a nice formal chat in Amsterdam in the Money20/20 Europe studio to discuss Web 3 in greater detail, particularly around where the opportunities are for women in the space.

How/why did you get into your space?

I completed my Master’s degree in Madrid in the year 2010: The MBA of the digital economy is MIB, Master in Internet Business. It was the first Master founded by the president of Google, Spain, Javier Rodriguez Zapatero. At the class reunion a few years later, there was a special guest speaker on the blockchain. I found it very fascinating, and so I started investigating and researching for many years before investing myself. My passion and deep knowledge of the Web 3 space has propelled me to become an industry leader and advocate for women.?

What role do you play in the tech ecosystem and why is that role important?

Apart from consulting on crypto and NFT portfolios for large companies, investors and celebrities, I believe Web 3 needs more speakers concerned with the future of the industry, with a focus on education. We are currently shaping the narrative. We are the ones who will be there after the tides from the bear markets wash away all the bad actors and broken systems.

I feel as an industry leader that my responsibility is to help educate newcomers with information they can trust, as well as to guide corporations through the navigation of bridging from Web 2 to Web 3. There is also a revolution bubbling on the surface of women rising up in Web 3, and I want to show them through traveling the world and speaking up that there is a place here for all women.’?

After hosting a fireside chat with industry shaper, Helen Hai, Senior Vice President of Binance at Money 2020 Amsterdam, and meetings with some of Web 3’s most influential women, such as Eva Longoria; CEO of Yuga Labs, Nicole Muniz and Yam Karkai, founder and creator of the World of Women NFT Collection, I think the future is looking very bright.?

How has technology impacted your industry and why is this important??

Blockchain technology and Web 3 are all about sovereignty and ownership, and will revolutionize the world as we know it. Retail investors now have access to tools that were previously reserved for accredited investors only. People can now have financial sovereignty, creators now have more freedom, defi has disrupted the financial system, and NFTs are a whole new layer of the internet, digital ownership.

What do you believe is the most exciting tech trend for 2022 (as it relates to your industry)?

I believe NFTs will be the main driver of mass adoption across various sectors, and will open up a whole new dimension for companies to interact with customers, creators, memberships, representation of ownership, both in the digital and physical world and they will play a role in defi, among so many other possibilities.

I am especially excited for the evolution of the music industry through NFTs.

Who is a person that inspires you in the space and why?

I am most inspired by people with a grand vision, forward thinkers and trail blazers like Cathie Wood.?

What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into your space?

A lot of people who are thinking about getting started tell me they put it off because they don’t have time, or they don’t believe in it because they don’t understand it, much like the early days of the internet.?

My response would be, the future is going there with or without you, so you might as well embrace it. This may very well be the opportunity of our lifetime, and the most important thing to do now is to get educated and to ask questions.?
