INVESTING IN POTENTIAL
The list of the 81 projects proposed by Tunisian Private business ( most of whom are in Tunisia) in TICAD8 show the high potential that Tunisia offers to investors (1).?
As a side note to TICAD8 event which is being held in Tunis, I briefly discuss a fairly palpable??perspective which envisages the potentials of the parties as pillars of partnership ( kindly see illustration).??
Such perspective, although limited, offers many possibilities for discussing investment in potential.
a)?????Since partnerships can be viewed as an essential part of today’s business ( as between shareholders,?between employer and employees, with?consultants,?with consultants suppliers, with contractors, with business partners, with stakeholders, in PPP … ), investing in potential would be the key to forging beneficial partnerships.?
?b)?????Investing in potential and in partnerships can be envisaged as a PROJECT.?This would require a diagnostic of current situation and a prospective view to the desired state in the future?which would help define the goals to be achieved for ?the different time horizons.?
?This would provide a basis for monitoring success and returns from the investment.
c)??????Even when successful in today’s highly competitive world, one cannot rest on his laurels and should continue to strive to improve his capabilities and overall potential in order to achieve resilience and sustainability.?

?d)?????I believe that ?Knowledge is a key resource in today’s economy and can be acquired very cost effectively ( if not freely) .?
?e)?????By analogy, the idea of investing in potential is not only valid for a country but can also be extended to a company as well as to the individual.
Last and not least, I note briefly that it is not merely a question of investing in potential and in partnership but also of knowing how to manage these investments.
