Investing in Mentors Changed My Career Trajectory

I realized early on that my personal development started to stagnate when I relied on a mentor who, in reality, had no mentor herself.?

This experience taught me an important lesson: When your mentor stops growing, your own growth is inevitably limited.?

My mentor had reached her peak, and because she had no one guiding her further, my own growth plateaued as well. I was essentially tethered to her progress, which had come to a halt.

This situation was a wake-up call for me.?

I understood that for my growth to continue, I needed to seek out mentors who were also committed to their own personal and professional development. By investing in mentors who are constantly learning, evolving, and pushing their boundaries, it in turn, drives my own growth.?

It was a pivotal shift in my mindset when I began investing in mentors who themselves were being mentored.?

Regardless of how much expertise you have in your field, you typically know 10-15% more than the people you are mentoring. That difference might seem small, but it's significant enough to guide and impact others. However, if you’re not consistently growing and seeking out new knowledge and mentorship, your clients and those you coach will eventually surpass you.

This is why I constantly strive to be the dumbest and brokest person in the room. I’m always looking to be surrounded by people who are more experienced, more knowledgeable, and more successful than I am. This not only ensures that I am always growing and evolving but also that I am continually bringing fresh, cutting-edge insights and thought-leadership to my clients.?

In the end, my growth directly impacts the value I bring to those I mentor, and I never want to stop delivering the best possible guidance and support to them.?
