Investing in AI, Why?

Generative AI is not just a buzzword; it's a game-changer for startups everywhere. With lower barriers to entry than traditional AI, it's no wonder that venture capitalists are pouring funds into AI-driven startups, hoping to catch the next big wave of innovation. In fact, a significant chunk of the new unicorns in 2023 were AI companies!

But why is AI making headlines now? How do we spot truly innovative startups? Whether you're an investor, entrepreneur, or just someone curious about the future of tech, this video into Generative AI is going to be enlightening and fun!

Be sure to stick to the end to catch the surprise ;-)

In the video, I presented an AI Stack (see below). I'll discuss more in simpler terms here.

AI Stack

Think of the AI stack like building a high-tech sandwich - each layer has its own important role! Let's start from the bottom and build our sandwich .. i meant stack accordingly.

The Foundation: Hardware

At the bottom, we have the GPUs and AI Accelerators. These are like the super-powerful brains that do all the heavy lifting:

  • Imagine having a supercharged calculator that can do millions of math problems in seconds. That's what GPUs from companies like NVIDIA do for AI.
  • Other companies like Google, Amazon, and Intel make their own special AI chips too.

The Kitchen: Hosting

This is where all the AI magic happens:

  • It's like choosing between cooking at home (on-premises) or eating out (cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Cloud options are usually easier and more flexible, but some companies prefer to keep everything in-house.

The Secret Sauce: Foundation Models

These are the pre-trained AI models that give your AI its basic smarts:

  • Some are like secret recipes (closed source) from companies like OpenAI.
  • Others are like open cookbooks (open source) that anyone can use and improve, like Llama.

The Spice Rack: Vector Database

This is where all the AI's knowledge is stored in a way it can easily understand and use:

  • It's like organizing your spices so you can quickly grab the right one when cooking.
  • Tools like Pinecone help the AI quickly find the information it needs.

The Chef: Orchestration

This layer coordinates all the different parts of the AI system:

  • It's like a head chef managing the kitchen, making sure everything works together smoothly.
  • Tools like LangChain help create AI agents that can perform tasks and make decisions.

The Cooking Process: MLOps/LLMOps

This is all about managing how the AI learns and operates:

  • It covers everything from preparing the data (ingredients), to training the AI (cooking), to serving it up to users (plating the dish).

The Final Dish: Apps

This is what users actually interact with:

  • It could be a chatbot, an image generator, or any other AI-powered application.
  • These apps can cater for consumers directly (B2C) or to businesses (B2B).

Just like how a great sandwich needs all its layers to taste amazing, a successful AI system needs all these parts working together seamlessly!
