InvestAI: Paving the Way for Europe's Leadership in Artificial Intelligence

In an exciting new step towards Europe's leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), the European Union has launched the InvestAI initiative at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris, yesterday, on 11 February 2025. The goal? To mobilize €200 billion in investment for AI, including a bold €20 billion fund for AI gigafactories. This initiative will drive open, collaborative development of the most advanced AI models and put Europe at the forefront of AI innovation.

InvestAI: Empowering Europe's AI Future

At the core of the InvestAI initiative is the creation of AI gigafactories across Europe. These state-of-the-art facilities will focus on training highly complex AI models, which are crucial for breakthroughs in fields like healthcare, medicine, and science. The gigafactories will be equipped with the latest AI technology—100,000 next-generation AI chips—allowing them to process vast amounts of data and power the development of next-level AI systems.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that AI will improve our healthcare, spur research and innovation, and boost our competitiveness. Von der Leyen also stressed that this is an opportunity to make Europe an AI continent, with InvestAI, being a way to supercharge such efforts. The European Investment Bank, via its President, Nadia Calvi?o, also mentioned that together with the EU Commission, the EIB will be stepping up its support for Artificial Intelligence, a key driver of innovation and productivity in Europe.?Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy states that the foundation for AI gigafactories marks a historic milestone to pool our resources; empower AI entrepreneurs to innovate and scale in the most challenging fields.
