Invest in Your Well Being. Build Your Relationships. Smile!

Are you in the smile business?

What if you defined your business that way?

How do you feel when you smile? How do you feel when someone smiles at you? A client, prospect, supplier, manager, staff…

Recently I’ve advised several clients, colleagues and friends to smile more often. Smile when you’re speaking on the phone, so you sound more friendly.

Smile when you’re presenting to an audience, so you look more friendly, confident and trustworthy.

Smile when you’re speaking in a virtual presentation or on video, so you convey warmth in this cold medium.

A smile makes you look better. A smile makes you feel better.

You don’t need to be grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Simply smile a few times during the conversation or presentation to help make that human connection.

There are different smiles – the joyous smile, the proud smile, the sheepish smile, the hopeful smile, the curious smile, the happy to meet you smile, the glad it’s over smile…

What if its bad news?

Frown when delivering the bad news or at least look empathic. Show understanding for the pain of others.

Smile when you deliver good news or offer hope. Have you noticed that funeral directors have this last one pat. They know when to convey empathy. They know when you need a smile to help you get through the tough times.

If you didn’t smile in your last meeting, then you might need to take a break, look in the mirror and smile at yourself because you deserve it.

Smile, because it makes you look and feel better. And it helps others around you feel better.

It’s a zero investment with a significant return.
