An Inverted Surprise

An Inverted Surprise

One Friday I went to get coffee with a friend of mine at a local café. It’s an easy walk and it clears your head to get some fresh air.

Too many issues to deal with, and so little time.

Somehow, I forgot to eat lunch that day. It hit me when I got to the café at close to 4 pm.

My partner in traversing to this establishment, ordered his latte and small treat. I asked one of the wait staff if he had any lunch items left.

“No, sorry we are out.”

“No problem. Hope your day has been good. It's my own problem. I should have eaten earlier."

He smiled. “Yeah, it’s been alright.”

He gave us our coffees and we sat down discussing the issues that can and can’t get resolved this week.

After a lull, the waiter I saw earlier at the counter, said, “You come in here often. Here is what I can do for you.”

He lays down an inverted steaming bowl of Shepherd’s pie, with the potatoes on the bottom and the stew on the top. A spoon was provided, with a napkin.

I was stunned in jubilee.

My friend said to me, “I have come here for years, and I never get Shepherd’s pie!”

“Well, you can have some of mine!”

He declined.

I was grateful for the wait staff man who brought this when I needed it, and for my friend for declining my offer.
