Invaluable benefit of using a Insurance Broker - Meet RiskBox
I have worked with RiskBox for numerous years, well since they started and could have wrote this article numerous times over the years but decided to write it now.
Putting aside that they are an amazing company and have saved me a fortune over the years on insurance premiums, they genuinely care. How can I say I know that, well let me introduce you to Gemma Kay, who as part of her role goes to 'battle' with insurance companies on a daily basis and when you have an insurance claim is invaluable!
My story is a simple leak which was taking place for a number of weeks without being noticed, so it destroyed the carpet that the waste pipe was attached to. Adding to this problem was that the carpet was connected to other open rooms and stairs in the same type of carpet. So the whole lot had to be ripped up and replaced.
Now this should have been no problem at all, as it was covered under two sections of my insurance policy. Three quotes were obtained for new carpets and of course went with the cheapest one. Again, following all expected behaviour that an insurance company would want. The carpets needed to be fitted one way or another but waiting for a response from the insurance company was like watching paint dry, so the carpets were purchased and fitted. Receipt sent to insurance company, as I am covered in two sections of my policy.
The receipt was not a small amount of money and was paid on the 19th December 2023. However, this is where I use the word 'battle' as the insurance company inform RiskBox that they were not paying this part of the claim.
What happen then is my 'Angel' and she really is, Gemma comes in, she has spent the last 4 and half months, pulling legal wording, providing cases that have set a precedent, using recent evidence from other claims, raising it in various departments of the said insurance company and going to their contact to prove that the policy covered this damage.
Now if I had to go through that process, I would not have had access to 50% of the information she put together and even if I did it would have taken days, never mind hours of my time to challenge something that should have been paid immediately.
The commercial insurance industry are an absolute disgust the way they are behaving at the moment with regards to dragging their feet on paying out on real genuine claims. Battling is exactly what people are having to do on a daily basis to be provided with something they have paid for.

As businesses, if we were paid for something and did not provide it then we would be committing a criminal offence, yet insurance companies are daily trying to wangle their way out of paying for something when their contracts say they should do. This has a far wider problem though as what it does though is put negativity into people's minds about all insurance and that is not the case, potentially creating vulnerabilities in families.
Now my situation was only carpets so not the end of the world, but I know people that are owed thousand and thousands of pounds who are not being paid, which could finish their businesses off.
My outcome, a positive one, totally 100% due to Gemma, is that as of Friday last week, they have agreed to make the payment. However, I might add without interest on the months they have delayed, making me out of pocket for four and half months! So they drag their feet, delay paying, keeping the money in their account, which in turn saves them money.
So the moral of this story is if you are in any doubt of contacting RiskBox for a quote for your Commercial Insurance, then think of my 'Angel' Gemma, because what you are paying for is a very intelligent, extremely professional, thorough and genuinely caring individual, who will be there when you need them. Adding in then is the expertise of the wider team that make up RiskBox as a company, who will have your back when you need them.
