An Introvert's take on ChatGPT !
“ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI (artificial intelligence),” tweeted Elon Musk.
While there is a hot debate currently happening all over Internet , about ChatGPT taking over Google search very soon vs at the end it is still a chat bot but not a search engine, the inherent strength that it posses is that it can converse.
Introverts basically process thoughts internally, which means they need to stop to think, articulate what they want to say, feel comfortable to whom they want to say and then say. Now, it’s a process fueled by time, which is limited with a third person but not with oneself. May be that’s one reason , or a major one why introverts tend to keep to themselves and resort to books or music to kill time socially. But who doesn’t like a simple conversation !
Now this is all ok to some extent in social gatherings or a casual meet-up’s. But it’s always a difficult battle when it comes to learning something , discuss ideas at work, get enough time and reviews for a presentation you need to make. For an introvert, all these situations force a one sided perception. With an ability to interact in a conversational way, and if used wisely with good intentions, it is probably a wonderful tool in your pocket.
After its official release in late 2022, Internet stormed with what ChatGPT can do, how amazing it is. YouTube flooded with tutorials, experiments, comparisons and what not. We even witnessed it debugging live code, providing solutions, suggesting improvements and so on.Like most of us, I was amazed too with its capabilities but a recent own experience made me think deeply about how drastically it can change the future !!
I was working on a tool to build something for my day to day tasks , and at one point I got stuck , unable to locate an option in the tool. Now this is something I am learning on my own and after spending around 4 hours searching on google , with no luck I have two options before me :???

The third option could be to talk to a support representative, but it is not open for me as it a paid service. I want to try my hands on this magic bot and opted for option 2. I asked my query , and there were some suggestions at first which didn’t work. Now, this is where the magic of conversational interaction took over. It started asking me some random questions ( which usually a support representative would ask ) and finally in about 10 mins into the conversation, it suggested me that I might be using a different version of tool , and the option I was searching for is located elsewhere in my version.
So, what took 4 hours with Google search (May be I am bad at how to search, may be the search results are not organized, may be I had to read through more stuff to arrive at solution), and it could be 12-24 hrs. before I get a response on my support ticket, and more 4-5 hours with the support representative to get to a conclusion, it just took 15 minutes of conversation with a bot (I repeat it is a generic conversation, but not any instructions).
Now, I am not sure how this effects the world, there is always good and bad, but to an introvert, here is a silent friend who can have a conversation with just one cup of coffee !

2 年Thanks for sharing, Surya. Conversational or question/answer-based learning has been the basis of Gurukul education system in ancient India. Its context driven where response to one question raises other question/ideas. The best example is Bhagvat Gita - a narration of the great conversation between Arjun and Krishna and is undoubtedly best conversation in history. Google once changed the way information was searched and its time again to change the way. AI powered conversations would replace the search engines or search engines would have to adopt AI and there's no way back here.

2 年First, when there is need for you to write something my friend, it means the event is important in itself. To be honest, human intelligence is spread across in books, in conversations (say phone/videos) and in a lot of situations which are already present in recording, considering all this as data and learning on top of it in multiple iterations is possible. So future versions, will be more and more close to what we call - Human Intelligence. Introvert and extrovert both will be affected.
