An introduction to vertical software
In the ever-changing world of technology, a new trend is emerging: vertical software. This article explores the world of vertical software, its unique advantages, potential drawbacks, and why it is becoming the go-to choice for many organisations.?
What is vertical software?
Vertical software a specialized type of?software that is tailored for specific businesses or industries. Unlike horizontal software, which is designed to be used across a wide range of industries and applications, vertical software is tailored to the unique requirements of a particular end-market, such as education, healthcare, finance, government, etc.? This allows the software to provide more specialized features and functionality that are relevant to that specific industry, and can help organizations in that end-market operate more efficiently and effectively.?
Vertical vs horizontal software
Horizontal software solutions are universal, with a broad feature set that is likely to appeal to a wide range of industries and organisations.? Examples include accounting software, CRM platforms, project management and communication software.? These products can be used by organisations in any sector to meet their bookkeeping, customer relationship management,?lead generation,?sales management, project management and internal communications requirements.
In contrast to the horizontal software model, vertical solutions include software that is targeted to a particular niche or industry vertical, such as retail, automotive, insurance, hospitality, logistics, etc.
The vertical software provider doesn’t aim to be all things to all people or cover a broad product category.? Instead, vertical software focuses much more narrowly on specific industry verticals.
What are the advantages of vertical software?
Vertical software solutions are becoming increasingly popular among businesses due to the numerous benefits they offer. By leveraging these advantages, companies can improve their operations while, at the same time, creating better outcomes for their customers.

1 年Excellent Sunmary Tom, I have built both types of software companies - when our product was broad we targeted verticals to maximise many of the benefits you outlined and when we went vertical our product was broad to become the “one stop shop” for that industry but it did require as to market globally .
