P-Tap

P-Tap is basically used to around N-MOS for supply and as guradring to avoid the effect of noise.

N-Tap is basically used to around P-MOS for supply and as guradring to avoid the effect of noise.

N-Tap
Via

Via is typically used for interconnection of different Metals.

View of Via

M1, M2, M3, M4 are different-different metals which are connected through different-different vias such as V1, V2, V3.

Poly-Metal 1

Poly-Metal 1 via

Used for connection between Poly and Metal 1, majorly used at gate terminal for input.

Metal 1 - Metal 2

Metal 1 - Metal 2 Via

Used for connection between Metal 1 and Metal 2

Points to Remember

  • Avoid using Poly for routing because (Resistance of Poly > Resistance of Metal)
  • Always use 3 or more via for better connections.
  • Avoid edges or notches
  • The pointer of the pin should always be inside of the pin boundary
