An Introduction to the Insultherm? Product Family

Where high temperatures exist, the Insultherm? Product Family of braided sleeves from Techflex? can provide essential thermal protection in extreme environments. Depending on the variety of Insultherm?, this high temperature sleeving product line helps to safeguard wires, cables, pipes, and hoses in temperatures between 1,200°F (649°C) and 2,000°F (1,093°C).

The products within the Insultherm? Product Family include:

Insultherm?: This extreme temperature sleeving is designed with tightly braided fiberglass yarns saturated with high temperature resins. The combination maintains strength when vibration, abrasion, mechanical stress, and temperature variations are present. High temperature resins keep fiberglass dust to a minimum, even when the sleeving has been cut with scissors. Insultherm?, which can handle temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C), is ideal for applications including multi terrain equipment, exhaust systems, and engine manifolds. It does not burn, melt, or become brittle in environments where the potential of fire could develop, even resisting gasoline and engine chemicals.

Insultherm? HD: When an application calls for more robust protection, choose this heavy duty Insultherm? variation. Insultherm? HD is made of a heavy wall construction with a high temperature cord interwoven into the sleeving. That cord provides abrasion protection and additional room for expansion to cover longer wire runs. Insultherm? HD is saturated with high temperature acrylic resin, which reduces fraying if it is scissor cut. This sleeving works well in covering and protecting industrial and hydraulic hose applications, fuel lines, EGR tubes, automotive or welding applications, and more, in temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C). It can be special ordered in flat sheets or a wrap with push button or stainless steel closures.

Insultherm? Header Wrap: This easy-to-install, texturized fiberglass and vermiculite wrap resists high temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) in high performance automotive headers and exhausts, where it contains and manages hot gases. Insultherm? Header Wrap is cut, abrasion, gasoline, and engine chemical resistant. It can even increase horsepower and improve fuel efficiency.

Insultherm? Header Wrap SI: This wrap is made of a texturized amorphous silica filament yarn, which can take continuous heat up to 2,000°F (1,093°C). Both Insultherm? Header Wrap SI and Insultherm? Header Wrap can reduce temperatures under the hood up to 70% for better horsepower, gas mileage, and exhaust flow. Insultherm? Header Wrap SI provides excellent insulating properties because it is texturized into a bulky form. Its construction additionally results in a more wear resistant product.

Insultherm? Tru-Fit: The braided fiberglass in Insultherm? Tru-Fit has an acrylic binder within it, to keep fraying and dust down when it is cut with scissors. This flexible and expandable sleeving is suitable as insulation for low voltage applications with irregular shapes and tight turns, including coffee makers, ranges, toasters, and other small appliances. It is cut and abrasion resistant, rated to 464°F (240°C), and designed to withstand temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C).

Insultherm? Ultra Flex?: Ultra Flex? is an expansive, flexible, heat-treated sleeve that can be easily scissor cut, then fit over the curves and contours of a wire harness without binding. It too provides excellent low voltage and high temperature protection, especially in smaller appliances. Insultherm? Ultra Flex? additionally works to safeguard wires near high performance engines and exhaust systems.?

Insultherm? Ultra Flex? Pro: Pipes and hoses that face abrasion and vibration require a higher level of protection. Insultherm? Ultra Flex? Pro offers that type of safeguarding. It is equipped with a heavy wall construction that has great expansion capabilities and larger diameters. That increased wall thickness provides supplemental insulation when exposed to temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C). Its heat-treated construction keeps fraying down if this sleeving is scissor cut.

Insultherm? Spark Plug Boots: These double ply slip-on sleeve segments are soft, flexible, and install with ease over any spark plug cable and boot, including right angle versions. Insultherm? Spark Plug Boots can protect cables in temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C). The boots can rest directly on exhaust manifolds and headers without burning, melting, or supporting combustion. They are non-conductive and resist engine chemicals. Insultherm? Silica Spark Plug Boot Insulators can install over 90° boots and are braided with thermal protective silica yarns to withstand temperatures up to 1,800°F (982°C).
