Introduction: To the domain of Training / Learning & Development
Around 15 years back I started my career as a fresher right out of management college directly into Training Industry as a Training Consultant. Since then with my fellow Trainers we have seen many changes throughout years in L&D Space. I still remember my days in Boot Camp where we were prepared for minimum 15 days, just to deliver a 2 days training Program, such was the investment that we were getting every time for each program. We were grilled and trained by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and then by our Master Trainers, so that we were fully prepared to Train and Facilitate the participants in their learning journey.
However, the Economic Crisis of 2008 changed the entire landscape of training industry. The training budgets were reduced to peanuts [pun intended]. So, the Training Industry improvised and started finding economical solution. And major cost cutting happened on Trainers Development. I will not go in the details of it and no Judgement on same as it was the only logical business choice.
Now the question is with the current pandemic situation the overall training industry will suffer and the investment on Trainer’s development will go down. But one thing I am sure about is that come what may the situation is, a Trainer is driven by Passion. I have interacted with so many Trainers who have zeal to learn and transform the industry but lacks proper guidance. Therefore, I am initiating a series of Articles for young trainers to read and understand about the Training Industry and Profession.
The best way to start with is by acknowledging the great Individuals who set the foundation and transformed the Learning & Development space with their research and provided the tools that a Trainer needs.
In my next article we will know about the contribution of Malcolm Knowles, he is the person who popularized the concept of Adult Learning or “Andragogy”
Note:
I will be using the term Trainer, LnD Professional and Coach interchangeably in my Articles and discuss the difference in some other Article.
Also, from next Article onward some details will be taken from various sources already available on Web, so no case of plagiarism.
