Introduction into Consciousness
By now, you have likely heard of the term consciousness. But do you truly understand what it is and why it's relevant? You might confuse consciousness with wakefulness, however - neuroscience now tells us that they are not the same thing.
Consciousness has more to do with states of awareness; awareness of both our internal experience and the interpretation of our external existence through perception. It is the matter of being sentient, or self-aware, and is the executive control station of the mind-body.
Consciousness is what we experience as our "subjective reality"...it is the ‘I’ feeling.
Science knows much about the brain and the mechanics of our bodies, yet it knows very little about the mind, consciousness, and how they function together. Experiences that enable us to feel passionate about something, or the experience of being in love, or feeling physical and emotional pain are all still beyond the realms of a concise explanation. We are beginning to gain clarity on the many parts within ourselves that are responsible for our experiences, but we still cannot explain how exactly they function together and produce consciousness.
Bear in mind, there is a difference between understanding how something works mechanically and understanding how something works experientially.
Now, it’s not that the experience can’t be explained, as other fields explore these more mysterious realms. It’s that, using the Newtonian Mechanical Model that science has had a preference for - these experiences can’t be looked at, observed, or objectively understood.
It's like trying to look at a microscopic structure that needs a magnification of 1000X with a machine only capable of reading up to 50X.
It’s the wrong instrument.
Meaning that it's 100% guaranteed to fail no matter how many different angles or methods you use to look at it.
We will continue to explore consciousness over the next few weeks as it is key to finding your own purpose, activating passion, and living the life you've always dreamed of.
