Introducing “tenure responsive land-use planning” Guide

The book pictured here is the just released Guide for tenure responsive land use planning.

?FLASHBACK

In late 2016, I shared a co-authored article published in Journal of Environmental Planning and Management to introduce the tenure responsive land-use planning in theory. In the article entitled, Combining land-use planning and tenure security: a tenure responsive land-use planning approach for developing countries, we argued that combining land-use planning and tenure security presents a new approach for widening the margins of tenure security improvements in the Global South.

TODAY

I am glad to announce that we now have a Practitioners’ Guide specifically designed for implementing tenure responsive land-use planning in countries of the Global South. Courtesy of funding and coordination works from the UN-Habitat/GLTN; and with support from the GIZ and TUM, the Guide is now a reality.

Today, the GLTN and UN-Habitat launched the Guide, entitled Tenure Responsive Land Use Planning: A Guide for Country Level Implementation, at a side event at the 2017 Land and Poverty Conference at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC. As the lead author of the Guide it was a memorable moment for me to finally see the fruit of my writing presented in the global arena – and with the hope that it would be utilised by practitioners in their land management tasks around the world.

FUTURE

If you are a practitioner (whether a planner, designer, surveyor, student, community development expert or a professional involved in land and tenure security issues), I call you to grab a free copy from the UN-Habitat/GLTN website. Use and share the Guide. Its application in country-level projects would help enhance the sustainable use of land and tenure security for all.
