Introducing Small Business Fridays

Startups and storytelling are two things I deeply love and care about. So, I’ve decided to combine both by sharing more stories about the amazing startups I work with and encounter.

I don’t think I need to tell you that small businesses are important - they drive innovation, contribute to the economy, and employ people.

But have you ever thought about how big of a role they play?

I’ve got a few figures for you. In the UK:

• There are 5.6 million small businesses.
• They generate 35% of the total private sector turnover. That’s about ￡2 trillion.
• They employ almost half of the workforce.

Yet, as a business owner myself and a supporter of many, I can tell you that building one and keeping it afloat isn’t easy. So let’s try to help them wherever we can, because every small contribution counts.

There are plenty of things you can do for a small business you come across. For example, you can:

• Tell someone about them.
• Buy something from them.
• Connect them to someone who can be helpful.

Starting today, I am going to try my best to bring one small business to you every single week.

Let me introduce to you our first featured business: JUNA . I had the pleasure of coaching its founder, Julia Nagel , on an entrepreneurship project at Imperial College Business School earlier this year. Her entrepreneurial spirit and the drive really stood out.

Julia started Juna back in 2021 with a dedication to creating unique candles that combine personal touches with sustainability.
