Introducing: Out Of Class - A new charity based in Luton

Introducing: Out Of Class - A new charity based in Luton

Last year I worked with a really awesome colleague who is really passionate about supporting 8-25 year olds with mental health and learning difficulties. We wanted a support programme that was FREE for the families and wanted to give local teenagers the best support to help them shape their future.

Sadly our time together in our last workplace was cut short and after much thought and advice we have decided to set up our own charity. After months of hard work and some great support from our other trustees... Out of Class has been born and I am officially a Trustee of this amazing project.

I am passionate about our new charity and we really want to ensure that the money raised from funding and fundraising events gives our children the best start in life possible and dreams to aspire to...

During these weekly sessions, staff create a positive, none judgmental learning environment where every young person is offered the opportunity to try new activities and skills which include creative arts, work with animals and physical activity such as gardening and sport.

If a young person decides they are interested in a particular activity they are encouraged to take up work placements within this field (if old enough) and signposted towards further education courses and apprenticeships where appropriate.

During the course of the year, each project includes:

* A drama, music or dance production performed to a small audience. This may include Rap, Breakdancing, DJing etc.

* Creative work such as painting, photography, clay modelling or jewellery design.

* A Gardening program

* Equine or canine training sessions

* Sport skills workshops such as cycling, climbing, football etc.

Starting in Luton but branching out into Milton Keynes as soon as we get Luton off the ground (as it is already supporting 10 children in Luton at Woodlands School) and we have a second school / college wanting to work with us already so we need to raise funds asap.

Huge congratulations to Stevie Hardingham! You are awesome and thank you for asking me to be a trustee.

We are having a launch party in April and will have an invitation for you very soon.

A great initiative. Hope it goes well. Branding looks nice too.
