Introducing one of our Audit Seniors, Tristan Tierney!

How long have you been at SD?

I started as a staff at SD on August 16, 2021, and have enjoyed my two-plus years with the firm in the Columbus Office. I also interned with SD in the audit department during the winter of 2020 and 2021.

What brings you excitement to your role and team?

I really enjoy seeing something new and different with every client and engagement.?I have been able to work with multiple different clients in various industries throughout the years. I like seeing how different clients and industries operate compared to each other. It is fun to meet a new client and learn some interesting and fun facts outside of accounting, as well as catching up with previous clients throughout the year. It is also nice that I get to work with different people inside SD on many engagements and clients and experience new, fun personalities. It is very rewarding when a client thanks us and appreciates the help we were able to provide. This past summer brought me a ton of excitement as I was able to work more with my sister, who is in the tax department, and my brother, who interned in the tax department.?Next summer should be even better with my brother interning in the audit department. ?

How would you describe the culture at SD?

The culture at SD is unlike anything else I have experienced. I can truly say that I have made lifelong friends within SD. There is never a dull day in the office, and we are constantly having a good time and sharing laughs, while getting work done of course, with the office being casual, welcoming and friendly. After COVID, I was dreading having to return to the office and being back to in-person but now I dread the days when I am not in the office with my coworkers. I feel a sense of ownership, belonging, and empowerment within SD. Managers and Shareholders want the best for you and will provide any help they can for you to grow and strive.

What’s your favorite SD memory?

I have many great memories at SD. One of my favorites would have to be the 2022 firm meeting. I met many people I had worked with face-to-face for the first time along with some new people in the Pittsburgh office and others that work around the country. I had a great time the night before the actual meeting during the firm reception and walking around downtown Pittsburgh to different venues.

What’s your favorite thing to do after work / on the weekend?

One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is to get a group of coworkers together and play golf in the summer. During the fall and winter, instead of golf, we will get together and watch football and maybe cheer for opposing teams. On the weeknights, I enjoy playing in the various sports leagues that I am a part of, such as an indoor soccer league and an SD volleyball team.
