Introducing the new Varjo XR-4 Series: Get to know the key features

Consisting of the standard Varjo XR-4, the XR-4 Focal Edition optimized for XR simulation, and XR-4 Secure Edition tailor-made for secure environments, Varjo's new generation of devices pushes mixed reality performance to a whole new level across different use cases.

On November 27th, Varjo announced its next generation XR-4 Series headsets – XR-4, XR-4 Focal Edition and XR-4 Secure Edition. These are the most advanced, highest-fidelity virtual and mixed reality headsets ever made. Going far beyond consumer-grade devices that only cater to 2D productivity use cases, Varjo's 4th generation headsets are designed to deliver deeply immersive VR/XR experiences for industrial customers who require top visual fidelity and performance.

The new XR-4 devices are available for enterprise orders immediately, with first shipments starting in December. The XR-4 Series pricing starts at 3990 euros or dollars, which is half the price of Varjo’s previous generation headsets.

The XR-4 Focal Edition has all the features of the XR-4 but offers the gaze-directed autofocus cameras and further optimized camera resolution of up to 51 PPD. XR-4 Focal Edition’s enhanced passthrough makes it the ultimate choice for training scenarios where real-world elements are integral to the simulation experience, such as pilot training or other cockpit-based use cases.

Varjo is the first VR/XR company to bring the gaze-directed autofocus mixed reality pass-through feature to market. Autofocus cameras mimic the behaviour of the human eye and match the human acuity required for mission-critical work. It is powered by 20 mpx cameras and our integrated eye tracking, so that the user gets a real-time moving focus area in our high-fidelity passthrough video based on where they’re looking at.

By analyzing where the user is looking, we create a dynamic depth-of-field effect identical to that of human vision. Focus is shifted faster than a saccade, which is the natural rapid eye movement from one distance to another, creating an imperceivable effect that is nothing short of magical. We are no longer mimicking human vision, we are replicating it, and the result is game changing.

XR-4 Secure Edition – TAA compliant mixed reality for secure environments

XR-4 Secure Edition offers versions of both the XR-4 and XR-4 Focal Edition to meet the needs of Varjo’s government and defense customers, adhering to government and enterprise-level security requirements.?

XR-4 Secure Edition headsets can go completely offline, are TAA compliant, non-RF and assembled in Finland. Varjo has also expanded its secure manufacturing capabilities with a new facility in Espoo, Finland where a dedicated manufacturing line for the XR-4 Secure Edition will be operational in December.?
