Introducing the New ULC Member Hub Experience

Introducing the New ULC Member Hub Experience

ULC is committed to serving the urban library professional, especially the more than 45,000 people who make up the staff at our 172 member libraries. Today, we are launching a new online Member Hub that will help ULC members — from library directors and CEOs to social workers and business librarians — be more engaged with what’s happening at libraries across North America and get to know better those who are leading this work.

We are excited to bring you this new ULC Member Hub experience, which has a familiar feel to a social media account in terms of how it looks and the communication features available. Keep reading to get started, and thank you for your patience as we introduce this new site.

Log On to the Member Hub at Connect.UrbanLibraries.org Using Your Same Credentials as Before!

Your login credentials and Member Profile details are transferred to the new system. This means your account information will not change! When you access the new site at connect.urbanlibraries.org, follow the prompts you typically see for your username and password.

You can continue to access the Member Hub by going to ULC's website, www.urbanlibraries.org, and navigating to "Member Hub" in the top right-hand corner.

If you are having trouble with your password, please click the “forgot password” link on the login screen.

Your Personalized Homepage

When you log into the Member Hub, your home page will look like Facebook or LinkedIn. Topics that you follow and discussions you are part of will appear as a feed on your home page, as well as your account profile that you can customize and an upcoming events list.?

Please take a moment today to review your member profile and update your contact information if needed. We encourage all members to upload a professional headshot or your library’s logo to serve as your profile photo. Under your account, you can also review your notification and privacy settings. You can choose how you receive Member Community discussions (i.e., listserv messages), how you appear in the Member Directory and how other members can contact you.?

Be sure to pin the Member Hub to your browser on your work computer. We encourage you to regularly visit the ULC Member Hub to get to know the new features and stay in touch with other members.?

Member Groups Are Now Member Communities?

Member Groups are now called Member Communities. Any group you are currently a part of will be automatically transferred to the new Member Communities feature. You will see this information in your profile as well as under the Member Communities tab.?

These communities and affiliated discussions are now accessible exclusively in the Member Hub, where they appear on your personalized home page feed.

However, you can also choose how you would like to receive community updates (online only, every message via email or a daily digest) under your account settings. Please note that the current member listserv email addresses will change. We will share more information with Member Communities directly on the Member Hub, so you have the new community email address. Make sure also to add [email protected] to your "allow" or "permit" list in your spam filters to ensure delivery of messages from Member Communities.

Find and Register for ULC Member Events?

Get involved with upcoming ULC member calls, webinars and other activities. You can register for events from your personalized home page or see all events in the calendar listing. Information from ULC events will also be archived in the Member Communities you are part of, so resources such as event recordings will be available even if you cannot attend.?

Be sure to register for an upcoming Member Community call this January and February. On these member calls, we’ll share more information about how to make the most out of the new Member Hub.?

Additional Upgraded Features

  • New and Improved Knowledge Exchange: The updated Knowledge Exchange document library now includes advanced searching capabilities, additional filtering options and a document submission system. You can also share documents with a particular member community or all ULC membership. Documents in the Knowledge Exchange library can also be previewed directly in your browser.
  • Search and Make Contacts in the Member Directory: A new advanced search feature allows you to find contact information for all ULC members and their library staff. Use the information provided to call or email them, or add them as a friend in the Member Hub to use the private messaging option.
  • Directly Upload Postings to the Job Board:?Newest job postings from ULC Members will appear at the top of this resource page, but you can use the search feature to narrow down what you see. Members may also directly upload job postings to appear on the Member Hub. Please note that job postings do not have an expiration date, so please include that information in the position description.?

We hope ULC members find this new and improved Member Hub a vital tool in your work. For further assistance with the new Member Hub, reach out to [email protected].
