Introducing nappy: beautiful, hi-res photos of black and brown people

For many of us who are in tech, media, marketing, and corporate America, photos play a big role in our day-to-day. We’re constantly searching for and utilizing images for presentations, UI mockups, banner ads, and more. As a photographer and a UI/UX designer, I, especially, understand the importance of images in the work that we do.
That's why I love and will always be a fan of platforms like Unsplash and Pexels—where amazing photographers from all around the world provide their photos to brands, small businesses, and freelancers for free.
My team and I try to be very intentional about cultural representation in the work that we do at boogie (mktg consultancy) and SHADE (influencer mgmt agency) but when we search for things like 'coffee' or 'computers’ on those platforms, it's difficult to find people who actually look like us in the search results.
But here’s the thing— we drink coffee, we use computers, we eat salads...
Then, we realized we weren’t the only ones who had this problem. As a result, we decided to launch nappy.
nappy is a website dedicated to providing beautiful, high-res photos of black and brown people to creatives, startups, brands, and agencies— absolutely free. nappy makes the search a little bit easier, for companies who are looking to be more purposeful about representation in their designs, presentations decks, and advertisements.
Did I mention the photos were beautiful? Because they are. Go check them out at nappy.co.

5 年Wow, I'm just discovering this. Wonderful resource! Representation matters in design and stock imagery as much as it does in mainstream media. I look forward to using this in future designs. Great work!?

6 年Such a great idea! And I will definitely begin using this sight. I will never forget early in my career having to set up a photo shoot for hundreds of dollars just to get my client some pictures of some brown girls behind a laptop and at a desk reading a book. WE NEEDED THIS!

7 年I have a start-up business (www.tcmcommunicationsllc), so I am very appreciative of you starting Nappy (I love the name)! As you noted, it is very hard finding quality photos that are representative of us. I usually have to spend hours online searching for just the right photo. THANK YOU!!!
